BY: KENNIDY RIVET Ever wonder what draws college students to St. Cloud State University? It might not be the education... Most students move to St. Cloud to attend college at St. Cloud State University. While many in St. Cloud believe SCSU to be all fun and games, there are mysterious stories, deep down in SCSU's history, that will make you second-guess visiting campus anytime soon. St. Cloud State University was founded in 1869 and has had 146 years to grow and develop young minds. Right under everyone's noses, however, something else was growing... Shoemaker Hall is one of St. Cloud State's dormitories that sits on the far end of campus, alone, atop a hill overlooking the Mississippi. When the fog rolls thickly around campus, and the full moon shines down upon the Mississippi, one feature that stands shrouded in mystery is Shoemaker Hall. Rumors say that in the 1900's, one of the female students had an affair with a caretaker at Shoemaker Hall. This woman became ill but soon was shocked to realize she was pregnant. Distraught and afraid that her family would disown her, this poor woman decided to hang herself in the kitchen in Shoemaker Hall. Specifically, she chose the meat locker. Today, that meat locker has been turned into a basement where unknowing college students try to relax with their friends. It might be hard to relax, however, because students report frequent paranormal activity throughout Shoemaker Hall. Students say that late at night, weary from studying, students will see a mysterious female figure - a woman - float above their beds. Their dorm lights will flicker on and off, and their TV's will spontaneously turn on and off; I don't think the warranty covers hauntings. Clocks will flash impossible numbers - as if something is trying to project a year - possibly a year in the 1900's? If all this wasn't scary enough, objects around the Hall will move on their own, and items will go missing as if someone, or something, is coveting them. If you ever go to St. Cloud State University, make sure you request to live anywhere other than Shoemaker Hall.
