BY ABDISADIK AIDRUS Donald Trump. The Republican front runner whose campaign slogan is “ Make America Great Again” has tremendous appeal among Tea Party voters as he has promised to take an effective stance against immigration. Trump’s popularity seems to be inflating day in and day out but that is not the case here at Apollo. The same survey that declared Bernie Sanders as Apollo’s favorite candidate on the Democratic side has declared John Kasich, who won 31% of the vote, as the Republican front runner with Apollo students. Ted Cruz became the second place choice with 25%. Donald Trump was favored by only 11% of the students that voted while the rest of the students said they were not paying attention to the presidential primaries.
Here’s how the survey compares to the actual primaries result: To date, Clinton has a lead of 1234 to 956 over Sanders based on primaries and caucuses. To win, the Democratic candidate would need 2,383 delegates. 2,125 are still available. On the other hand, Donald Trump has 739 delegates followed by Ted Cruz who has 465 and John kasich who has 143 delegates. 1237 delegates are needed for the nomination. 944 are still available. Most of the students polled cannot vote, but they have made their voices heard. I bet if students were allowed to vote, they would make a huge difference. Especially to John Kasich who mathematically, can not reach the necessary delegate count.
