BY ABDISADIK AIDRUS Abdisadik attended the Choir concert on Monday, December 19th and was blown away! Choir Director Ms. Janasz directs students as they sing "Jingle Bells". Not many people have the nerve to sing in public, but on December 19th, the Apollo High School Choral Department showcased their talents and distinguished themselves in their outstanding annual holiday and winter themed performance.
The show included 74 students from classes of the choir program, including the chamber choir, freshmen choir, varsity choir, women’s choir, and the concert choir. This transpired on a night when friends and relatives filled the auditorium to see students manifest their talents and as expected, the choirs did not disappoint. The talent pool at Apollo was in full display as voices rose and twinkled in harmony while students performed songs varying from “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” to "Jingle Bells" and "Sweeter Still" which Laura Jansky, a junior who has been in the program since her first day of highschool, described to be a “gorgeous piece” that makes you think of the most beautiful things in life. At a time when social media bombards us at an alarming speed and where we as a society are becoming desensitized to violence, cruelty, and hardships, the Apollo choral department presented passion and camaraderie through their music. It is simply impossible to put a price tag on the knowledge, creativity, compassion, empathy, and the love the choir students showcased through their charming voices.
