WHATEVER religion you are, whatever your faith is, and whatever you celebrate, these yummy recipes will add charm to your table and food to your stomach! ‘Tis the season! All recipes adapted from Food Network. BY HALIMA ADEN WE Day took place on November 12th, in Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. The event was founded by Craig and Marc Kielburger. The brothers were vehement about helping other people, so they started a program that would enable youth to empower others. Every young person has the opportunity to be apart of We Day by doing one local action and one global action. Our first local action was We Scare Hunger where students went trick-or-treating for non-perishable food items to give to the local food shelf. Our second local action will be We Are Silent; it's on April 16th and we go silent for 24 hours to stand up for those whose voices are not heard. Our global action includes selling Rafikis to empower women in Kenya. The word “Rafiki” means friendship in Swahili. Apollo students can empower Kenyan Mamas by purchasing a bracelet for $10. There are five rafikis to choose from and each one symbolizes a different type of empowerment. For example, if you are passionate about education, you could purchase the bracelet that symbolizes educational empowerment. ON Friday, November 14, the Thunder caused doors to rattle and students to cheer in the halls. This wasn’t a freak cold-weather thunderstorm, this was the St. Cloud area adapted soccer team - The Thunder - who elicited cheers and support from AHS students.
The Thunder’s pep rally, led by its Apollo team members, preceded a Friday night game to qualify for a state championship match. The team rumbled through the halls and onto a bus to drive to the stadium. The Thunder, though electric and determined, lost the state-qualifying game and returned home to St. Cloud and began looking ahead to next year. BY BRIAN BALOUN ON Wednesday, November 12, 2014 history was made at Apollo High School. Seven astronauts were introduced to the Apollo and St. Cloud communities for the first time. What an evening it was! Bringing seven astronauts of this caliber together may never happen again. That’s what made this event even more historical! The seven astronauts have resumes that no one can compare to. The astronauts have flown missions to the Moon (one even walked on it), flown on Skylab (much like the International Space Station), and flown many shuttle missions...Six of them having flown Apollo missions to space. |
