The St. Cloud school board approved a boys hockey cooperative between St. Cloud Tech and St. Cloud Apollo. As stated by SCtimes, The cooperative will be formed for at least two seasons, beginning with the 2016-17 season. The teams must form the co-op for a minimum of two seasons to abide by Minnesota State High School League rules. While the major decision has been made, there are still questions that the two programs will have to work out before the upcoming season. Langerud and Swanberg each said the next step the programs will face is determining what facilities they will use for practices and games, as well as what the nickname will be and what uniforms to use. Another big decision will be choosing who will be the head coach of the combined team. Apollo was coached by Pete Matanich and Tech was coached by Joel Heitkamp last season. The two athletic directors and both school principals will start working together to decide on all of the details as soon as possible. Although both athletic directors have said this isn't the situation they want their programs to be in, they both agree that the co-op between Apollo and Tech is necessary. It definitely should be necessary. Winter without hockey is no fun at all. Hopefully the joint team will be able to combine its powers and give us a miraculous season
