Read these student-created interview questions to learn about your favorite teachers What is your name? Jeremy Engen
What made you want to get into teaching? I was the "new kid" my junior year of high school and I had a really tough two years finishing high school because my classmates bullied me everyday, during every hall passing. During that time I battled a lot with my self-esteem and self-worth and it was my English/Theater Teacher and Choir Director that took me under their wing and helped me become the star that I am today. I became the teacher I am today because I wanted to emulate what they did for me and help students who feel lost and don't fit in. Everyone has a place to fit, it just isn't the easiest to find sometimes. I think about all the tough days I had being bullied in high school and I get to be the difference now and help my students who were just like me. My teachers pushed music and writing and it saved me; I owe them that and I "do me" everyday to fullest so I can make a difference just like they did for me. What do you like to do when you are not teaching or at school? I love singing and I like being able to see my friends. Most of the friends that I'm close with I met in college choir, so most of our hang outs include jamming out and harmonizing together. Music is the source that gives me life and I make sure I sing a riff or vocal run everyday so I stay alive. My top musical influences are: Queen, The Beatles, Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus and Beyonce. Sum up in three words what were you like in high school. Different, Edgy, & Musical Which one word would you use to sum up your teaching style? Real If you weren't teaching the subject you are now, what would you want to teach instead? Choir
